About Shu-Yin Mau
Background in Family Counselling 家庭輔導的背景
I possess a Masters in Counselling Psychology and a Diploma in Art Therapy. I have specialized training in narrative therapy, mindfulness, attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, couple couselling, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy and Trauma-Focus CBT. Thus, I am committed to sharing what I know about progress and healing to help people live and function their desired life. Since therapy requires a lot of mental nurturing and emotional enrichment, my office locates across from a park in City of Langley.
The Path to Substance Abuse
輔導毒品上癮的經驗
In addition to being a Family Therapist, I worked in Downtown Eastside for over 13 years. Of those 7 years, I was a Drug & Alcohol Counsellor directly working with individuals whose lives were entrenched in street drugs, alcohol, and unmet needs. Each of them taught me about addiction, chaos, chronic pain, family dysfunction, and intergenerational trauma. Thus, I am compassionate about sharing the impact of substance misuse and childhood adversity with adolescents and their families.
The Cross Culture Adaptation 移民家庭輔導經驗
As an immigrant, I have encountered numerous challenges and learned how to adapt to the main-stream culture. The struggles between my own culture practice and the local one have enhanced my assimilation process and developed coping skills to adjust over the years. This experience encourages me to have full compassion when helping other immigrants learn to balance their cultural values with those of the prevailing Caucasian one, in order to live their preferred lives.
